Made in Santa Cruz, Ca., the porcelain used to make these pieces is mixed with ceramic stains, resulting in vibrant colors. The outside of the cup is left unglazed and sanded to the smoothest and softest finish, while the inside is glazed in a food safe clear gloss. While these pieces feel delicate in the hand, porcelain is generally more durable and stronger than stoneware. It chips less, is less breakable and much less porous.
